Can I acknowledge members for a heathy turnout to our AGM on Zoom this week, 36 in attendance and our special guest Johnny Dryden. Those outside Auckland and Northland will be moving down to alert level 3 on Wednesday and that undoubtedly comes as a relief for many.
While a lower alert level comes with a few more freedoms, a number of restrictions are still in place to keep everyone safe, which includes strict social distancing and no face-to-face club meetings at Cambridge High School until further notice. We will continue with Zoom meetings for now.
Just a reminder at alert level 3, we must maintain in our household bubble. You may expand your bubble slightly, but this is limited to close family and whanau, bringing in caregivers, or supporting isolated people. Remember to keep your bubble exclusive, and should someone in the bubble feel unwell, they must immediately self-isolate from everyone else.
As we move into level 3, I think even after a week and a half some will be looking forward to click and collect takeaways, with some treats, including having that coffee fix.
Don’t forget to take the Survey Monkey link emailed last Friday on Club Runner, this to select your two nominations for our 2021 -2022 Nominations Committee. Thank you to those who have put forward for selection with results due next week. For those that are still to vote ‘please note’ the survey will close midday this Wednesday 1st September.
Have a great week everyone and enjoy the additional freedoms, I look forward to seeing you all on Zoom next week.
President Ian
Meeting Notes - AGM 26 August 2021
The Zoom meeting started at 5.34pm with 35 members + 1 honorary member logged on. Sergeant Ted noted that ‘On This Day in The Past’, Russia gave women the vote but wondered if Scottish women had yet got the vote!
He introduced President Ian who commented that Covid caught us a bit by surprise, but he was using the lockdown to focus on a bit of exercise and quality time with family at home and around the world.
The AGM was called to order and President Ian proceeded through the agenda. Following the close of the AGM, President Ian asked for reports.
At this point, Johnny Dryden joined the meeting from his Cruise vehicle. He was introduced by Bill Robinson and chairs the Districts Membership Committee.
Urban Miners (Mark Hanlon) - TA visit now unlikely. David Blewden added that TA very keen and expanding.
75th Anniversary Event (John Bishop) - probably postponed until late October at the earliest.
Garden Festival - no report but also awaiting the Alert Level situation.
Bookarama (Ray Milner) - Town Hall booked and will make decisions as Covid restrictions progress.
Bar Licence (Ray Milner) - application made and not expecting any problems.
PR Noted - Urban Miners article. Pet Refuge publicity also included our participation.
Funding (Doug Lang) - grant applications needed in next few weeks as deadline pushed back.
Cambridge Harriers (Bill Robinson) - will probably cancel but waiting to see what happens.
Daffodil Collection (Nigel Salter) - had to cancel. Noted that bunches of daffodils at $10 are being sold by First Choice for the Cancer Fund.
Rotary Learning Centre (Bill Robinson) - now members have time on their hands, this source of information is recommended. Some members have already started and should complete the segments. “We know your names!” This warning prompted Jeremy Irwin to volunteer for “a lesson or ten”.
Events Club (David Partis) - The existing events will take place provided they are allowed by Covid restrictions. “The mountain is still there.”
Johnny Dryden reminded us that the Learning Centre will enhance our experience as Rotarians.
Gavin Levesque joined the meeting having “forgotten what day it was”. He’s fine otherwise, apparently.
President Ian closed the meeting with an extract from DG Ross’s email to remind us that we are here to help. Shout out if you need anything or know someone who we could help. Noted that District is updating the web sites etc.
