Last week’s meeting with BA5
Thank you to LesleyAnn Thomas for co-ordinating the successful BA5 meeting. A good turnout from the Chamber and also Rotarians and an opportunity to network and showcase Rotary in Cambridge and beyond.

Fabulous Rotary Conference!!!
”Many of the Rotary Havelock North members were busy from Friday morning until mid-afternoon Sunday with the district conference which was held at the Toitoi events centre in Hastings.
What a great event this was and how proud were we of Hawkes Bay and the region that we could showcase to all the visitors.
We ended up with 330 for dinner on Saturday night and the Mid-Life Crisis theme was taken on board by the majority of attendees. The team from Cambridge Rotary with their Mid-Wife crisis and pregnant seniors took the prize for the best dressed and themed club.
Havelock North was a tie for second, though, with our wonderful placards and the effort many put into their costumes. Here is a link to the photo’s taken by Wayne Dobson of the
event. Below is a photo of our protest and placards.
The whole conference was wonderful from beginning to end and there were many compliments on how good the conference was. I am sure you will hear from the attendees how much they enjoyed it.”
June
As the Rotary year draws to a close, there is still much going on in our final month. So – to name a few - we have our regular meetings on a Thursday, book sorting on a Wednesday, Urban Miners collection and processing, meetings of the Board and Public Image Committee, Quiz nights at The Thornton Club. We also look forward to the dinner and show at the Gaslight Theatre – there’s been a great response to this evening and I think there is now a waiting list!
Remember it’s committee meeting night this coming Thursday (10th) and our last regular club meeting on the 24th before changeover on 1 July at Te Awa Lifestyle Village.
Notes – 3 June 2021
Some 34 Rotarians and 25 members of the Chamber of Commerce were greeted by LesleyAnn Thomas and welcomed by Kelly Bouzaid. Finger foods were served while everyone mixed and mingled.
President Beverley Maul-Rogers then showcased our Club after outlining the purpose of Rotary. She mentioned international and local projects. Bookarama and the Charity Dinner being our biggest fundraisers this year. These events enabled us to provide help where needed in our community and the wider world. Rotary is also for fellowship and fun, she added, as well as providing opportunities for personal improvement and business networking.
Robyn Crickett announced that 7 Clubs had put forward names for the Outward Bound Course and that our candidate was one of the two selected. The cost of over $4,000 is fully funded.
Stand-in Sergeant Chris Crickett reminded us that in This Day in History, TV started in New Zealand with 23 inch screens which cost £131 - the equivalent of $5,000 in today’s money. He then proceeded to enumerate a number of shortcomings of members.
John Bishop, who should have been resting, assisted in collecting fines while complaining about lost marbles. Notwithstanding that, he also organised the draw.
The final call for the Theatre Evening was given by Bev Heron. Doors will open at 6.00pm for a 6.20pm start.
Gretchen Bosacker “bought the box” and shared the great news that she, and her family has been granted a Resident Visa.
Kelly Bouzaid also ran the draw for Chamber members before wrapping up an enjoyable and, we hope, productive evening.
