The attention of members was caught by the mention of bikinis by Sergeant Ted Mason on his first calling for order. After mentioning the Moon Landing, he came back to Earth and introduced President Ian Grant to the 45 members and guests present.
President Ian welcomed everyone and especially guest Alecia. He thanked all those responsible for the excellent Changeover Evening. This followed with an extensive presentation our 2021–22 Club Work Plan & Strategy for the forthcoming year.
He added that contacts will be fostered with the Cambridge Lions Club as well as other Rotary Clubs. Ian reminded us we need to Do More to Grow More and need for Each one to Bring One.
International Director Bronwyn Byers put forward a Mini Project proposal, that funds from three of our club dinners be donated to an international project.
Youth Director Alan van Niekerk reported that a Kite Flying concept was being considered.
Community Director Nigel Salter mentioned the Great Kiwi Summer Expo and a Cycle Group project.
President Ian concluded his presentation with a video on the Centenary of Rotary in Australia and New Zealand.
Sergeant Ted’s first session of extracting fines was pertinent and successful.
David Blewden reported good relations with the Lions Club on the Urban Miners project and repeated his call for volunteers. They may be from outside Rotary, he said, and would not be asked to join just because they helped. The project is to be visited by Louise Upston MP.
He reminded members of the Rotorua visit on 17 July (possibly with a Hot Tub); the mountain walks on 4 September and the trip to Otago on 6 October. All details are on the website.
Immediate Past President Bev passed the old chain of office to President Ian with a warning that the back of the frame was loose. Bev then presented our Public Image Team with the District Communications Trophy and read the Citation confirming that we had won it for a second time. Well done to Roger and the Public Image Committee.
President Ian closed the meeting, asking as many members as possible to attend next week’s Committee Meetings.
See you all next week.
“It’s been a challenging year, but Rotary has proven again that we can adapt and thrive in the face of change. The lessons we learn this year will shape our organization for years to come”.
