Presidents Message
A week ago, New Zealand was an exemplar for how swift and decisive action can stifle the spread of the coronavirus.
No locally acquired cases of COVID-19 had been reported since the start of May. But the emergence this week of a cluster of cases — currently numbering over 50 — has caught us all by surprise.
The new cases have been a shock. When they were announced, New Zealand had experienced more than 100 days with no identified community transmission, despite extensive testing.
The country was at its lowest alert level, which allows near-normal activities, albeit with strict controls requiring travelers from overseas to remain in a quarantine facility for two weeks.
I had a general feeling that we had beaten the virus — funny how complacency settles in.
So, for us its back to Zoom meetings next week (log in details below from Bill) and who would have thought….
The Board have agreed to continue with our scheduled AGM next week – so please do your upmost to attend, we have a few formalities needing attention at the meeting.
See you all online – keep safe and shout out should you need anything.

AGM Notice
As advised in the notice for the AGM the two non-Board members of the nominating committee have completed two years’ service and are due to be replaced.
Please send nominations to the secretary Ray Milner at: raym65@outlook.com before the meeting. The nominated candidate will also need to confirm their agreement to the nomination.
This is best done by emailing the nomination to both the candidate and secretary, the candidate can then forward the email to the secretary with their agreement.
If this can be done before midday the Secretary will be able to email a list of candidates to members before the meeting. Late nominations can still be accepted at the meeting but both nominator and candidate will need to be present online for the meeting.
Thanks,
Ray
Daffodil Day Collection Postponed
Robyn from the Cancer Society has advised that the Daffodil Day collections have been cancelled nationally due to the uncertainty surrounding the Covid 19 lock downs.
So, no collection at Mitre 10 Cambridge on 27/28 August. I assured Robyn that when an alternate project is identified she should let us know if we can assist.
Thank you to all those that volunteered, whether you were on the roster or not.
