Notes – 9 September 2021
Sergeant Ted Mason “made the right move” tonight and, after some warlike references, introduced our “unflappable” President Ian Grant.
President Ian thought that there was a lack of emphasis on Scottish victories but warmly welcomed 37 members and 2 guests to our second online meeting.
We might be best to wait for Level 1, he said, before returning to our CHS venue but members will be surveyed to obtain their opinions.
Bill Robinson introduced our guest speaker, Mike Cahill, who handed over to Nikki Cameron for the first part. Nikki Cameron is the Special Events Manager for the National Summer Special Olympics which is an annual event for adults and children who have been born with a permanent intellectual disability.
There are over 5,000 athletes in 44 clubs in NZ. With their coaches, there will be 1,600 people meeting in Hamilton on 8-12 December 2021 to compete in 11 sports at 8 venues. 600 volunteers are needed to run the events.
About 500 have already signed up (quite a few from Freemasons, who sponsor the event) but more are required. Details will be on the website and members, partners, families and friends are all welcome.
Involvement can be for half a day upwards – or as a spectator.
All events can be supported and entry is free.
Mike Cahill then showed a video from a previous volunteer, Kayleigh Willis.
IPP Beverley Maul-Rogers commented that the project aligned well with the Health and Wellbeing aims of both the International President and our President Ian.
“”We are in awe”, added President Ian, of the effort to organise and run this event – including the Disco! He thanked both our guests and will nominate a Board member to handle our participation.
Privacy Documents – President Ian went through the drafts in general terms and John Tarbutt will post copies on Club Runner.
The provisions are those published by International and have merely been adapted to fit with local conditions.
A Privacy Officer will be appointed by the Board.
Venture Club (David Partis) – the weather has been organized and participants will be advised.
Meetings with the Council on the Park Bench Project continue but a brass plaque will cost $600 so this aspect is being re-thought.
Community (Nigel Salter) – as David has already booked the weather, members will be advised if it prevents the bikers from riding out.
The Christmas Parade date looks like being 5 December 2021.
The discussions with Council about the Drinking Fountain are being reported to the Board.
Urban Miners (Mark Hanlon) – collections are getting back to normal. Still needs someone with experience of promotions and marketing.
President Ian closed the rather extended meeting by thanking everyone for bearing with the introduction of the Privacy Documents
