Meeting Notes:
32 members attended the ZOOM Meeting held at 5.30 p.m. on 3 September
Sergeant John Bishop advised members that President Bev Maul-Rogers was unable to attend. Keith Rogers has been admitted to hospital, and Bev is supporting him. He extended the best wishes of all members to Keith.
Past President Robyn Crickett took the Chair in her absence, and shared an incident that she had experienced with a traffic officer, that, as one member observed “could never have happened to a bloke”.
LesleAnn Thomas introduced Mark Hanlon (who needs no introduction), as a gracious last-minute stand-in guest speaker, the topic being the initial W-Waste collection.
Mark outlined the 3 aims of this and future “collection events”:
- Control of the incoming amounts of E Waste to ensure manageable quantities
- Ensuring that payment is received for the material
- Filtering unacceptable material from E Waste
The initial trial at Te Miro School had been well supported by the Principal and the students, who had distributed a flyer ahead of the event to promote and explain the collection. David Blewdon donned his cap as a former teacher and addressed students, presenting examples of E waste materials.
On the day, collections were accepted from 8.30 am until noon (these hours nominated by the School). Approximately 220 kg of material were collected, and average of 18 kg per pupil. Given the school is based on 19 families; this was an excellent outcome for the trial and an endorsement of the process. Future events will also be based on schools.
Mark reported that the working group now has sufficient material on hand for sorting and despatch to the Auckland distributors, and called for volunteers to assist with this process.
Kim Pritchard thanked Mark for his comprehensive presentation.
Robyn invited Directors to brief the meeting:
Jan Bilton: The tour of the glass works was scheduled for 4.45 pm on 29 October, followed by dinner at Te Awa. She asked members to promote the sale of cookbooks.

Sergeant John advised that, in the absence of contrary information, the meeting next week will again be via Zoom.
Past President Robyn thanked members and guests for their attendance, and closed the meeting early at 6.20 pm.
