Another strong turnout on-line last week for our weekly catch up. Thanks to those that joined in for a general chit-chat and sharing thoughts on next years activities.
A couple of important notices were given relating to cancelation or postponement of pre-Christmas activities. Nigel Salter informed us that this year’s Cambridge Christmas Parade has been cancelled and John Tarbutt the cancelation of Achievement House Christmas Party. Both cancelations due to Covid level uncertainty.
Your Cambridge Rotary Board in support of Carey Church will also need to decide on this year’s Garden Festival, this early next week after Mondays cabinet announcement. Unless we see a significant change towards Level Two, our Garden Festival may also need to be held over until next year. We can only hope for better news in next week’s announcement
….
I hear the UN climate summit kicks off this Sunday in my hometown of Glasgow. I also hear New Zealand will be represented by the climate minister and Green Party co-leader, James Shaw, along with a slimmed-down team of diplomats. Let’s hope negotiations aimed at achieving global net zero, protecting communities and natural habitats adequately respond to the climate crisis and that these also reflect Rotary values and goals worldwide.
Some say it’s time for New Zealand ‘and others’ to commit to delivering on its fair share of what is necessary to avoid runaway global warming.
Anyway – back to our 2 weekly online Zoom Meeting next Thursday and it would be great to see as many as possible on-line. We have a small number absent, and I would love for you all to join in.
Also please have a read below on the request from Havelock North Club, thanks to those who have already purchased tickets.
Have a great week ahead.
President Ian
Dear Cambridge Rotary
We know that the present restrictions are impacting the work of Rotary clubs in the Waikato, and we hope that things improve very soon.
For the past 25 years, Havelock North Rotary Club has very successfully held an annual trailer raffle, with tickets being sold at the entrances of supermarkets and other businesses. Due to the current pandemic restrictions, many of the usual selling sites are now unavailable. The club members have seen this as an opportunity to raise the much-needed funds in a different way, so this year many of the tickets will be sold online.
The first prize is a trailer filled with grocery items and the second prize is an amazing fishing kayak. We can arrange delivery of these prizes to the lucky winners to anywhere in the 9930 district.
Kind regards,
David H. Smith,
Secretary, Havelock North Rotary Club.
