Meeting Notes 25 February 2021
Guests for the evening were Margaret Nicholson and partner Lloyd, Ailsa Henderson, Chris Smiley and guest speaker Greg Thornton ( principal of Cambridge High School), and a special welcome back to Dennis Finn.
Greg provided an update on Cambridge High School activities, outlining the workings and significant benefits of the School house system. For easy identification, each of the houses is represented by a distinctive logo.
He also spoke to the process of reviewing the School’s strategic plan. The plan was intended to target the development of all students by providing each with a sense of purpose and self-confidence. Planning in advances for the physical expansion of the School, and this will be achieved by increasing capacity by extending upwards the existing buildings rather than compromising green spaces.
Greg shared some of the difficulties experienced by teachers and pupils in dealing with the Covid 19 lock-down, and confirmed that procedures were in place should a further lock-down be introduced.
In response to a query from the floor, Greg advised that there were 1,780 pupils enrolled in the School, representing many cultures.

President Bev advised that Jan Bilton’s partner, Michael Ryan had suffered a fall, but was back at home.
John Bishop has undergone further surgery, and was back in the ICU. Our thoughts are with John and family – but definitely no visitors at this time.
President Bev inducted Margaret Nicholson into the Club. Margaret has varied interests including reading, crafts and the piano, so it is appropriate that she joins the Bookarama team. Welcome to Margaret and partner Lloyd.
John Tarbutt spoke to the process for nominations for District Governor for our district, and outlined the qualifications needed for a successful nominee.
He endorsed Bill Robinson as a worthy candidate.
Moved by John Tarbutt, seconded Chris Crickett that Bill Robinson be endorsed as the Club’s nominee for District Governor, District 9930, for the year 2023/2024.
