Our thoughts go out to the family of Di Hopwood who passed away peacefully at Waikato Hospital on Wednesday 1st July. A service to celebrate Di's life will be held at St Andrew's Church, 85 Hamilton Road, Cambridge on Tuesday 7th July at 11am. Presidents Message From the President …… Good turnout of members on Thursday 2nd. I am looking forward to the year and working with you all to deliver the actions of the Work Plan which is being circulated by Bulletin Editor, Maurice Marshment. My powerpoint presentation will also be circulated along with the text of the song performed by our own Band on Changeover Night. It was with sadness that we learnt of the passing of Di Hopwood, a long-standing member of the Club. Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, 7 July at 11.00am at St Andrews Church, Cambridge. I will attend and I’m sure a number of other Rotarians will be there also. Just recapping on our meeting structure for the 2020-2021 year - The first three meetings of the month will be fully catered
- 1st and 3rd weeks we will have a speaker
- 2nd week will be Committee meetings, plus time for notices, “Did you Know …” and Sergeant’s session
- The 4th week of the month will be a Zoom meeting commencing at 5.30pm. It will be structured with the focus being a range of options. The meeting will last one hour.
- Where there are 5 Thursdays in the month we will have a vocational visit, interclub visit, etc with a catered meal
- Our venue will be the Don Rowlands Centre at Mighty River Domain. Currently we’re investigating a “permanent home” but until arrangements are in place we will meet at the Don Rowlands Centre.
- The Zoom meetings will be reviewed in October
I look forward to seeing a good attendance again for our first Committee meeting night. This opens opportunities for each and every member to be involved in the activities of the club. Remember – engage, energise and enjoy. Sargent John introduced our new President Bev Rogers who proceeded to thank the change over team for the excellent night. Special thanks also went to the band. A slide show of the results of the recent survey of all members was presented by Bev and discussed. Bev then presented her Strategic Priorities and Objectives for 2020-21. The emphasis being to use all your energy not in fighting the old but on building the new. A copy of these priorities and objectives is being sent out separately. The Rotary of Cambridge Club work plan was then presented along with the committee membership for 2020-21 Copy of the work plan is being sent out separately. The glass sides will show the rotary logo. It is only awaiting council to proceed. David Blewden asked that members keep 8th August free for a visit to the secret location of the E waste recovery project More information to follow. Vocational visit Rotary Midwinter Christmas Race Meeting When: Wednesday 22 July @ 4.30pm for 4.45pm start. Where: Cambridge Raceway, Taylor Street, Cambridge There will be no Thursday 23 July rotary meeting CEO Dave Branch will talk to us initially about the raceway and its future. Racing (and betting) starts at 5.30pm Drinks are available from the bar. Dinner: two options One: $20 main course or Two: Midwinter Christmas Dinner $40 includes a main, dessert and a drink. (This needs to be pre-booked.) Meals and drinks to be paid for at the venue. We have the opportunity to have a race named after the club plus photo ops with the winning horse. An attendance form will be circulated at the next Rotary meeting. Partners very welcome.
