From the President …… the committee meetings at club night yesterday went well with everyone engaged and picking up tasks to do. I could see that initial progress was being made on the various Work Plan projects. I would welcome feedback on your observations of the committee night. Thank you to Nigel Salter for picking up the recording of our meetings for the bulletin. He will work with Maurie in putting together an interesting and informative “read”. Please let Nigel know if you have anything you wish included. Next week, as well as a speaker, we have the special general meeting to consider and adopt the amended Constitution. It would be appreciated if you could field any questions through Secretary Ray before the night. Enjoy the week, this glorious weather and keep warm!! Meeting Notes: 9 July 2020. President Bev welcomed the members, pleased at the solid turnout for the Committee discussions. She reported that she had attended Di Hopwood on Tuesday 7 July Committee Discussions The meeting then devolved into Committee discussions, headed by their relative Board members (with Ted Mason and Don Wilson standing in for Ken Leatham and Jan Bilton respectively). E-Waste Project Kim Prichard then spoke to the progress in the Rotary E-waste recycling program. He reported that the Council has provided premises to house the Project, and urged members to treat the location of which in strict confidence to ensure that recycling items were not dumped there by the public to avoid the handling charges. He reported that the 8 team members had brought in their own personal items as a trial to gauge the potential volumes of gear that would be generated, and spoke to the samples that were on display. Members were invited to bring their own recyclables (up to but no larger than microwave ovens) to the venue on 8 August – fees for their items would be calculated and included on Members’ monthly invoices. Kim re-iterated that one of the fundamental aims of the Project was to reduce the quantity of matted that wound up in land fill. To this end, the project would initially utilise the services of ethical processors in Auckland, who recycled as much as possible of the content matter. The published price list was aimed at covering the cost of the processors, plus a small margin to meet Project cost to the Club. Dinner After dinner, President Bev advised that District Changeover would take place in Havelock North on 26 Jul;y. Bev Heron then explained the alternatives for Members attending the Vocational visit to the Raceway on 23 July, and advised those who wished to attend but had not so indicated to contact Jan Bilton.
