THIS WEEK'S NOTICES

Club meeting 4/07/19

Welcome

Our Sergeant for the year – Bill Robinson welcomed everyone and encouraged everyone to read the weekly bulletin. He also asked everyone on a weekly duty to make a diary note and if unable to attend arrange for a substitute.

President Robyn – The Year Ahead 2019-2020

Bob Teal had the pleasure of introducing President Robyn. Robyn was born in Wellington but moved to the North Shore of Auckland at an early age.  She has qualifications in Horticulture and Landscape Design and also Sports Wellbeing. She raised three daughters in Cambridge.

President Robyn welcomed back Rotarians who had been on leave – Roger Gordon, Bruce Hancock, Gavin Levesque and David Smith, as well as welcoming Silvio Ribeiro who would be inducted as a member in a few weeks.  Robyn mentioned that the club membership currently stood at 56 comprising 10 women and 46 men.

In addressing her presentation on the year ahead which had been based around the Feedback Session held earlier in the year as well as her own vision, Robyn said it was not too late to ask to be moved from the committee on which a member had been assigned to one they preferred.

The PowerPoint slides which formed the basis of the presentation is being circulated concurrently with this bulletin. The slides show:

  • Committee Membership 2019-2020 – under leadership of President Robyn
  • Club Work Plan 2019-2020
  • Directors reporting on specific projects
  • Publicity team
  • Areas of Service Targets 2019-2020
  • Key outcomes of Feedback Session – May 2019
  • Meeting changes proposed
  • Increase our impact
  • Expand our reach
  • Enhance our engagement

Under the proposed changes, President Robyn made particular mention of the frequency of meetings to be two formal meetings per month and two informal meetings. Not all meetings would have a meal with the informal meetings being an opportunity for networking and project or committee meetings. Where there is a 5th Thursday in a month, these are proposed to be used for vocational visits, etc.

It was noted that up until October a programme had already been confirmed with speakers for each Thursday under the current scenario and the new arrangement for meetings would not take effect until then.

The final message was “there is some work to do but let’s have fun doing it”.

Members – particularly those who were unable to attend last Thursday are encouraged to become familiar with President Robyn’s plans for the year ahead by reading the presentation slides. Please feel free to ask questions of Robyn.

Notices

Best Bulletin Award - District Changeover
President Robyn, Chris Crickett and Ted and Lindsay Mason attended the District Changeover at Morrinsville on Sunday.  Rotary Cambridge received the Best Bulletin Award and President Robyn presented the trophy and certificate as well as acknowledging the efforts to achieve this to – Don Wilson, Bev Maul-Rogers, Elaine Ruiz and also John Tarbutt who was not in attendance.

Matching Grants
Opportunities for matching grants available.  Members are encouraged to see Doug Lang if they have ideas for a community project for which the club could apply.  Every idea will be considered. The Rotary Foundation will match the money contributed by our club. The Club needs lots of ideas.  Applications close 31 August (not July as previously advised).

Cambridge Findit Directory – a reminder
At the May club meeting members were advised that the Board had met and received a report from the Cambridge Findit Directory Committee.  It was noted that there had been a couple of years where the revenue had declined.  The project was up against competition from online directories and new apps that had been developed.  On the recommendation of the Committee the Board agreed to abandon the Findit project.  Members will have noted the article and advertisement that has appeared in the local papers. For those who missed it this is being circulated as a separate document.

INTERACT Fundraiser – Movie “Yesterday”
Interact is holding a movie fundraiser with funds going to the Cambridge Lifeskills Trust.  The film “Yesterday” will be screened on Wednesday 10 July at 8.00pm at the Tivoli.  Tickets $20.  There will be an auction and raffle.  Please contact Andy Newman as soon as possible if you would like to attend.

Dry July
Bill Wilson and Ken Leatham are participating in “Dry July month”.  Donations raised benefit the Cancer Society with a particular focus on Prostate Cancer.  Please see Bill or Ken if you would like to donate.

Raffle Winners this week
Tom Pickering and Chris Crickett.  Congratulations.

Inspiring
Ray Milner “bought the box” at the meeting and told members of his son’s recent achievement cycling from Perth to Sydney – a total of approximately 4,000 kms.  Truly fits last year’s theme “Be the Inspiration”.

Rotary Clothing

Rotary Branded Clothing

The club is looking to collate together a bulk order from Rotary Down Under in Melbourne for members wishing to purchase Rotary Branded Clothing.  The Board has also decided to include the name Cambridge on the branding as well.  (This incurs an additional $10 cost).

The items selected from the RDU website are shown below, with the cost to our members, i.e. the Cambridge branding included.

Please advise Roger Hill by email (roger.hill@hill-labs.co.nz) of which items you require and the size.  A clipboard with these options is also being passed around on club night.

Roster

Please take note of the Duty Roster and be in good time for your duties.

NOTE The Duty "Magic Moment" is: A short comment referencing something in our community, or within Rotary which you find inspiring, encouraging or adding to the joy and pleasure of life. It should be an uplifting story that takes no more than two minutes to deliver. Ideally it will be something from the last week or so, something others may not yet have heard about.
