THIS WEEK'S NOTICES

Bulletin notes - Club meeting 23/05/19

Welcome

President Ray extended a welcome, particularly to the two groups who were to each address the meeting on the proposed Fireworks Project at Karapiro, and visitor Sue Milner.

Fireworks Project debate:

The process for the debate was explained by President Ray.  The two groups each had a 15 minute speaking slot (including questions).  The groups would retire from the meeting following the debate and the club would vote either for or against the project following the evening meal with a final decision being made by the Rotary Board taking into consideration the voting outcome.  Scutineers had been appointed.

Youth Director and proposed project lead, Ian Grant reminded members of the background to the proposed project.

The Animal Welfare Concerns group was represented by Jen Campion, Betty Newcombe, Jenny Hobson and Tom Hobson.  Both Tom Hobson and Jen Campion spoke on behalf of the group.

Liz Stolwyk spoke on behalf of Waipa District Council and Mighty River Doman and Mike Pettit on behalf of Waipa District Council.

At the end of the meeting those present took part in a secret ballot with the following result:

In favour of the Fireworks Project:            12
Against the Fireworks Project :                 18

Notices

Rotary Branded Clothing

The club is looking to collate together a bulk order from Rotary Down Under in Melbourne for members wishing to purchase Rotary Branded Clothing.  The Board has also decided to include the name Cambridge on the branding as well.  (This incurs an additional $10 cost).

The items selected from the RDU website are shown below, with the cost to our members, i.e. the Cambridge branding included.

Please advise Roger Hill by email (roger.hill@hill-labs.co.nz) of which items you require and the size.  A clipboard with these options is also being passed around on club night.

Matching Grants
Opportunities for matching grants available.  Members are encouraged to see Doug Lang if they have ideas for a community project for which the club could apply.  Every idea will be considered. The Rotary Foundation will match the money contributed by our club. At this stage we just want ideas.

Rotary Club of Cambridge – changeover - will be held on Thursday, 27 June.

With two-thirds of members present and voting it was Moved Ray Milner seconded John Bishop – That the amendment to the Rotary Club of Cambridge Inc Bylaws as circulated to all members on 8 May 2019 be approved.                                           CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY
