THIS WEEK'S NOTICES

Club meeting 18/07/19

Welcome

Welcome
Cambridge Chamber of Commerce
Unfortunately Kelly Bouzaid was unable to attend and Lesley Ann Thomas one of our own members volunteered to step in at very short notice. LesleyAnn has been a member of the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce for over 19 years and has been a past president.
As she was not prepared she encouraged question from the audience and answered them in a very professional way from her own point of view with the excellent and broad knowledge she has.
The subjects covered were wide and varied.
Living wage, minimum wage and youth rates.
Disputes
Hiring selection
Wages
Not for profit organisations and living wage
The chambers present top topics, parking and cameras.
The benefits of joining the Chamber
Poverty.
LesleyAnm explain that the rotary club was a member and how it could take advantage of this membership.
Much discussion took place and LesleyAnns talk with answers to such a wide range of subjects was well received by all in attendance

Notices
Feedback from Board meeting
  •             All members will be required to distribute flyer for the Garden Festival
  •              Project ideas
Brainstorming ideas for the District Grant Service Project and members were asked to suggest more ideas or vote on which ideas you like. It is a live link where members can add their suggestions to the document. Any additions to be either in another colour or have the member’s name with it. The President will be making a suggestion at next week’s meeting as to a viable project. The choice of project will depend on the timeframe we have to carry out budgeting and preparation work and meeting the criteria of the grant demanded by District for service projects.
If members want to contact the President please use her email: robyncrickett@gmail.com

Present ideas for Rotary Service Project: 11 July Meeting

Install drinking fountains in CBD and Greenbelt

Cooking school for refugees, immigrants and lower income groups. Teach low priced healthy cooking

Terrace the bank of the Square opposite Town clock and plant with shrubs, etc.

In association with the terracing of the bank above: looking at some kind of renovation/walkway at the top of the Jubilee Steps, as you approach the Farmer’s Market. The area is always muddy and no grass grows under the trees. The area is not part of the Square that would affect cricket but would improve access to the market

Coordinate the replacement and tidy up of Town entry signs

Afternoon tea/coffee for the community. Rotarians bring a dish and we could sell tickets for it (Silvio)

Commission a public artwork
Plant citrus trees in the streets

Outdoor Challenge Skills Park like at Singapore Zoo. Rotary could build it on Council land – Council run it. Singapore Zoo charges $5/turn – the kids and parents love it (Carey)

Run a charitable Cataract clinic with volunteers and donated theatre space. Rotary organise & set up & fund the materials (Carey)

Coordinate a volunteer or paid programme for people to visit and keep old lonely people company – like the young entrepreneur in Chch did (Sam Johnson)

A bus shelter opposite the I Site. Presently there is no shelter for passengers

A funky bike stand as seen in Morrinsville http://www.adrian-worsley.com/bike-stand-sculptures/dog-bike-stand/ cost between $25-50K. We could get one created as a horse

Raffle Winners

John Tarbutt and Mark Hanlon

Visit
A suggested visit to Ruakura was raise for the last Thursday in August, subject to numbers

Magic moment
.Carey Church spoke of her cycling trip through Europe and the difference in attitudes towards tourist
In different countries. It was much uplifting when she reached both Venice and Tuscany which gave her, her magic moment

                    Rotary Branded Clothing
Roger Hill said he is keen to close off the orders for Rotary Branded Clothing in a week or two.  If you have missed filling in the order form please let Roger know which                     clothing items you would like and the size. Members need to let Roger know if you approve your account being charged for the cost.  By wearing Rotary branded                               clothing when we are participating in a project is important to identify us as Rotarians and that we’re out there working for the community.

Roster

Roster

Please take note of the Duty Roster and be in good time for your duties.

NOTE The Duty "Magic Moment" is: A short comment referencing something in our community, or within Rotary which you find inspiring, encouraging or adding to the joy and pleasure of life. It should be an uplifting story that takes no more than two minutes to deliver. Ideally it will be something from the last week or so, something others may not yet have heard about.
