Informal Meeting – Thursday 18 June
President Robyn hosted a well-attended last club meeting for the 2019-2020 Rotary year. She said how quickly the year had gone which seemed to accelerate during the “Zoom” period. A welcome was given to Leo Morresey from Alaska – brother-in-law of Mark Hanlon. He had been in New Zealand since the beginning of the year and was unable to return home as planned due to COVID-19. Carey Church who had not joined the Zoom meetings was present and was given a warm welcome. Also great to see Michael Ryan accompanying Jan.
Speaker
No “physical” speaker however Andrew Bateman and team organized the showing of a TED talk with a light-hearted look at “procrastination”. I’m sure many of us related to this and the situation it puts us in!
Catering
The catering for the evening had been organized by Jan Bilton and Bev Heron and we enjoyed Indian “delicacies” from Royal Cambridge.
Sergeant’s Session
Sergeant Bill Robinson ran a lively sergeant’s session and from all accounts extracted a good number of dollars from members’ pockets – particularly as all those with birthdays, anniversaries etc going back to prior to lockdown were fined.

A Message from Bill Wilson
Hey friends,
This year, I’ve decided to sign up for a Dry July. We know 2020 has been a year of challenges, which makes the challenge all the more difficult!
Going dry won’t just benefit my own health, but it’s all for a great cause. I’m raising funds to help improve the comfort, care and wellbeing of New Zealanders affected by cancer, who need our help now more than ever.
Any donation you can give would be greatly appreciated, even if it’s what you’d save on your daily coffee or commute! You can make a donation here: www.dryjuly.co.nz/users/bill-wilson-2.
Thanks in advance for your donation!
(A non-alcoholic) Cheers,
Bill
Garden Festival
As members are aware the Garden Festival for 2020 is postponed but will be held again in 2021. Carey Church said it will be a bumper Festival next year and asked the whole club to keep their eyes open for potential gardens as they walk or drive through Cambridge and the surrounding areas. Please let Bev Maul-Rogers, Carey or Shirley Haycock know if you see a garden that is a possibility. Carey will be on leave of absence until the end of the year but will pop back in October to check on any leads.
